Gel Nails in Nails

What are gel nails?

Gel nails are an excellent way to add length to your natural nails, without looking too artificial. Gel nails are similar to acrylic nails but are fast becoming the more popular choice due to the natural look of them. Gel nails are formed using a combination of a liquid and powder, called monomer liquid and polymer powder.

How are gel nails done?

Firstly your nails will be trimmed, shaped and tips will be applied if desired, a layer of primer is then applied to the nail to remove any moisture or oils to allow the gel to bind to the nail. The coloured, or clear gel will then be applied to the nail, several coats are required. Between each coat of nail gel a UV, or LED lamp is used to set the gel in place. Your nails may then be buffed, polishing them to a shine to provide you with perfect looking gel nails. Gel nails need to be filled in, the same as acrylic nails. It is recommended that this is done every 3 - 4 weeks. Gel nails are removed by either filing them off, or soaking them in an acetone based nail varnish remover.

What are the advantages of gel nails?

There are many advantages of having gel nails over other methods. Gel nails last for a longer period of times than store bought artificial nails and polishes. Gel nails do not chip easily, and have a glossier finish. They do not produce any odour unlike other artificial nail methods. Gel nails are also far better for your real nails, and do less damage than other methods.
