Claire Wray - Pilates Trainer, Leeds

Claire Wray, co-founder of Equilibrium Health has worked in health and fitness for over twenty years and is an Advanced Practitioner of Modern Pilates, trained by the Pilates Institute and has brought the first fully equipped Pilates studio to Leeds City Centre.

After a concurrent career in corporate training, Claire specialised in one to one Pilates tuition. She has been interviewed by Radio Leeds, written for Leeds Guide and featured in Zest magazine as well as giving regular talks to women's groups in Leeds on posture, Pilates and fitness. Her Baby Pilates class was featured in Practical Parenting's March 2006 issue as one of 7 Rainy Day Boredom Busters.

      What is a Personal Training session at Equilibrium Health like? Well the very vague answer is - it depends. We base the session on what you want and the results of your Health Assessment to make the session work for you. One person’s fat loss workout will be different from the next person’s muscle building workout. But because you’re the only person in the room with your trainer there’s no time wasted waiting for equipment to become free or a whole gym watching your every move! Our focus is your success. We don’t make clients fit it with the latest training methods an Instructor may have learnt. We use proven methods that achieve results as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible. Our business has been built on word of mouth recommendations – we do very little advertising. If we didn’t get the results people want we wouldn’t have a business. Oh, and the best bit is – you’ll enjoy it! We’ve have clients that have been coming to us for 15 years. We think that means they like us.

      Pilates is a whole body movement technique which brings balance to the body. Joseph Pilates taught in his New York studio on machines he invented for the purpose. JP didn't teach mat work classes - they're a new phenomenon brought about to bring Pilates to the masses. At Equilibrium Health, Claire Wray and her expert team emulate the original method by tailoring the exercise to the individual. Large group classes really don't offer the individual attention required to learn Pilates effectively, nor do they offer enough progression. Teaching one to one and in small groups we can offer precise instruction, adaptation and get to know our clients bodies for optimum results. For the best results Claire recommends: A total of 2-4 sessions a week lasting between 15 minutes - 1 hour - quality, not quantity is the key At least one machine session a week if possible At least one session with a fully qualified teacher - in a class or private session Perform other forms of exercise, cardio and/or other resistance training during the week, incorporating the principles of Pilates. Pilates learned properly is very effective and leaves you refreshed, strong, never strained. If youÂ’re serious about the technique come to us and experience it for real.
