We believe the job of a personal trainer is assess and deliver a specific exercise program to cover the clients goals and needs, then be able to readily provide motivation and support to the client for that exercise program, in addition to proper technical instruction. A trainer will keep records of their clients’ exercise sessions to help monitor progress, along with a periodic assessment and may also advise their clients on how to modify their lifestyle outside of the exercise program to improve their fitness e.g. Nutrition.
In the UK personal trainers need to attain the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) level 3 Qualification. There are a number of training providers, the largest of which being the YMCA and Premier. Personal trainers must also be qualified in first aid and have full Insurance Liability Cover.
