Blog > Hair Trends for Winter 2019

Published 1st November 2019

Just as there are trends in fashion, there are trends in hair world, and we're looking forward to the upcoming autumn and winter seasons as we try and predict what will be popular.

In 2018 and early 2019, new shades and colours were experimented with, and we started to see a resurgence of the buzz cut on the red carpet. As an increased emphasis is placed on individualism, these are the hair trends we are starting to see on the catwalks and publications for the end of 2019.

A 70's inspired Blunt Bob

With the seventies revival in full swing with celebs like Kendall Jenner getting in on the act, a blunter shorter bob seems to be making its way back to our attention.

The shorter bob trend is an evolution of the previously fashionable boyfriend bob, sitting at the shoulders. This new bob style will be shorter and sharper, with more precision cutting required from an expert hand. This type of blunt bob has the advantage of suiting many face types and can help thicken fine hair, while being ever stylish no matter the occasion.

Grey Hair Trend

The grey inspired blondes and even the ‘go for it’ all over grey trend has been growing in popularity over the course of the last few years. It's also predicted to go even more mainstream towards the end of the year, especially as key social media influencers such as Victoria Magrath of In The Frow embrace the trend.

Pinterest searches show 'going grey' as a search term has increased 879% this year, indicating that those with grey hairs are doing more to work with it more naturally, and also fashion-forward trendsetters are going all over grey as the key colour of choice.

Sleek & Straight

If you cast your mind back to the early noughties, you may recall the army of woman who embraced poker-straight hair. Now, love it or loathe it, it has returned to our streets!

Large curls and waves may be making their way out as they have been trendy for some time now, with long, sleek and straight seeming to be the trend winning the prize of ‘centre of attention’. We hope your straighteners are up to the job!

Modern Buns

More often than not, the quick gathering together of 'needs to be washed' hair are those of mums, students and business owners rather than key trendsetters.

The messy top knot made an impact in Chanel's Autumn fashion show, and we are predicting it starts to gather its own momentum this autumn season.

Volume turned up Loud

The excellent news for lovers of volume, as it's still around as a key trend.

Although the sleek and straight style may take over eventually, the need for big hair is still alive and kicking - you lucky bunch!
