Blog > Winter inspiration for your makeup look

Published 20th November 2014

Winter 2014 is set to be all about the eyes when it comes to makeup looks this season. From extremely elongated top and bottom lashes at Rochas, to bold flashes of azure liner flicks at Dior – play up your winter look with a few tips and tricks to suit your eye shape this winter.

Take a look at the chart below to see which eye shape best fits yours, and read on to see which catwalk beauty trend would look great on you this season.

For almond eyes: the bold liner flick as seen at Dior

Ladies with almond eyes (think Beyonce) have a great eye shape to really carry off bold makeup looks due to the symmetry and space on the eyelid. Dark colours accentuate the eyes rather than close them in and make them into a gorgeous feature.

Sapphires and Cobalt blues are hot news for this winter as seen at Dior, and you can recreate the look at home with ease. Simply switch up your regular black or brown eyeliner for a fun shade – any colour goes but try a blue shade to be on trend with the catwalks – and draw on your feline flick. Not feeling too confident? Draw a thin line along your upper lashline instead and simply blend the colour out with a pencil brush for a soft hint of colour.

For Monolid eyes: grungy smokes as seen at Lanvin

Monolids look amazing with graphic liner and smokey eyes so it’s fabulous news that Lanvin mixed up both together this season. For ladies with monolids like Lucy Liu, try applying a liquid eyeliner as an all over colour. The best part about this look is that it doesn’t require a great deal of technical skill – the messier the better!

Create the look at home by using a fluffy brush dipped in a liquid eyeliner and stippled onto the lids to create that rockstar, slept-in look that was seen at Lanvin and Burberry Prorsum.

For round eyes: elongated lashes as seen at Rochas

Rounded eyes look fabulous made up with lashings of mascara, but to really set them off this season, try extra long lashes with a healthy two coats of mascara.

Katy Perry has stunning rounded eyes that really sparkle when they’re made up. To recreate the Rochas look at home, try layering two pairs of lashes on top of each other before applying them to your top lashline. For extra drama, try a few individual shorter lashes for the bottom lashline. Keeping the rest of your makeup neutral will really make the eyes pop without looking overdramatic.

For hooded eyes: defined winged liner with layered mascara

Ladies with hooded eyes like Selena Gomez look great with a sweep of defined black liner leading out into a gorgeous feline flick. Pat McGrath created beautiful liner flicks and added lashings of mascara to the girls at Dolce and Gabbana this season to create a classic romantic winter look.

Create the look at home by using your favourite liner to draw a thin line along your upper lashline, flick your brush upwards around ¾ of the way along to create your flick and fill in to your desired width. Add a few coats of volumising mascara to finish off the look.
