Hothouse flowers are the inspiration for this spring’s must have beauty looks, with lush radiant orchid and vibrant zingy oranges gracing the faces of those in the know. You may balk at the boldness of these shades, but actually they can be worn almost anywhere on the face to compliment and contour, if you just know how to apply them to suit you.

A zesty bright orange will look great used as a sheer colour wash on the cheeks on warmer skintones from pale through to tan, and works well to contour cheekbones, while a zingy pop of citrusy gloss on the lips lifts both olive and darker complexions. Asian or Indian skin can benefit from a more brick based orange as a contour shade to get that sexy, beachy defined look and really bring out the contour.

Paler girls with rosy hues in their skin can work a bright slash of raging orchid on their lips into their look, as a bang up to date alternative to that perennial glamour staple, the red lip. Used on the lips, radiant orchid will have a slightly volume enhancing effect, which is perfect if you have thin lips.

Eyes don’t have to miss out either, a wash of beautiful radiant orchid in the middle of the lids to highlight peepers and make them stand out is especially complimentary to those with cooler toned complexions. But where Pantone’s colour of the year looks really spectacular is when used as a blush on dark skinned girls to contour under the cheekbone, in both a nod to 80’s and a bang on trend salute.

Everyone can wear both these lovely shades on the nails, for either an uplifting modern citrus burst of orange or to add a feminine and elegant orchid finish to their look. Rimmel 60 Second Nail Polish in Violet Accidule or Sun Dower (£3.69) are both great affordable ways to buy into the new spring colour trend.

For those seeking an intense colour hit of orchid, Stila’s Colour Balm Lipstick in Gemma, £16, is a gorgeous striking purple with a super-luxe intense texture that will leave a minty, refreshing taste on your kisser,

Finally, if you want to try out the new springtime shades but are unsure if they will work for you, why not pick up Benefit’s gorgeous new Hervana cheek powder, £23.50, which contains four complementary shades including orange and orchid that blend together and are guaranteed to suit almost every complexion.
