What is a Traditional Tattoo?

A traditional tattoo is generally designs that stem from pre 1970's. Traditional tattoos usually only consist of a few basic colours including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black and brown. Traditional tattoos usually come in striking, and powerful designs that are also very simplistic.

How are tattoos done?

First of all a consultation is usually undergone with the tattoo artist to decide on the art that you would like. It is extremely important to go to a reputable tattoo artist if you are considering having a tattoo done.

After the artwork has been decided, a trace will be transferred across to your skin. This enables you to review the final design before it is tattooed on to you, any amendments can be made until you are completely happy with the design.

Once the design has been finalised, the tattoo artist will use a tattoo machine which usually has 5 needles on it. The needles penetrate the skin, the tattoo gun penetrates the 7 layers of skin and the coloured ink rests in the dermis layer of your skin. This is the process that forms the tattoo on your skin.

It is extremely important to care for your tattoo after it has been completed, aftercare includes keeping cling film on it for a day and moisturising it regularly.
