Cover-up Tattoos in Tattoos & Piercings

What is a cover up?

Do you have a tattoo that you no longer want? Maybe an ex partners initials that you really just don't want to look at anymore? A tattoo cover up may be the perfect solution for you. A cover up is exactly as the name suggests, your old tattoo is covered over with something new in a design of your choice and the procedure it exactly the same as getting a tattoo for the first time.

How are tattoos done?

First of all a consultation is usually undergone with the tattoo artist to decide on the art that you would like. It is extremely important to go to a reputable tattoo artist if you are considering having a tattoo done.

After the artwork has been decided, a trace will be transferred across to your skin. This enables you to review the final design before it is tattooed on to you, any amendments can be made until you are completely happy with the design.

Once the design has been finalised, the tattoo artist will use a tattoo machine which usually has 5 needles on it. The needles penetrate the skin, the tattoo gun penetrates the 7 layers of skin and the coloured ink rests in the dermis layer of your skin. This is the process that forms the tattoo on your skin.

It is extremely important to care for your tattoo after it has been completed, aftercare includes keeping cling film on it for a day and moisturising it regularly.
