Blog > How to Care for Your Eyelash Extensions

Published 24th January 2020

Eyelash extensions can make such a difference to the way you look. They can open up your eyes making them look bigger, while having thicker fluttery lashes adds texture and youthfulness to any face.

Having extensions also means the daily mascara application is not required and you can choose different lengths of lash extension which makes them perfectly acceptable for a daytime look.

So, it is no wonder that people who have eyelash extensions want them to be at their best for as long as possible.

Keep Eyelash Extensions Looking Great

Unfortunately, eyelash extensions will fall out eventually. This is due to the fact they are attached to your natural lashes so eventually will need to be refilled. This is where a visit to a local, trusted nearby salon will be useful as they will be able to assist in keeping those brows looking tidy, groomed and amazing.

In the meantime, here are some of our practical tips you can do yourself for keeping those lashes, luscious for longer:

Choose lighter individual lashed over thicker eyelash extensions.

Thicker eyelash extensions are heavier and are therefore more likely to peel off. Lighter individual lashes may not create as dramatic an effect on your eyes, but they will stay on longer than thicker lashes, providing more benefits in that way.

Keep thick creams away from your eyes.

Thick creams may work wonders for your complexion, especially during dry winter months, but they also dramatically reduce the life of your eyelash extensions. These creams can break up the glue that holds eyelash extensions in place.

Apply eyelash sealer.

Eyelash sealers, when applied every morning, can help to extend the life of your eyelash extensions. Look for sealers that contain both acrylic and hyaluronic serum, as this will both help your extensions adhere better and also condition your natural eyelashes.

Keep your face off your pillow at night.

It’s not hard to understand why sleeping with your face on your pillow can pull your eyelash extensions out–especially if you ever move your face around while you are sleeping. Instead, try to sleep on your back so that your eyelash extensions aren’t touched throughout the night. If you are still struggling then you may want to invest in a beauty sleep mask with indents over the eyes to prevent rubbing on your precious eyelash extensions.

Match to your natural eyelash shape.

This may also seem counter-intuitive, especially since you may want curly lashes if your own are super-straight but matching your eyelash extensions to the shape of your natural eyelashes can help to ensure that they last longer. You can always use a heated eyelash curler to liven up straight extensions, but this way they won’t fall out prematurely.

Don’t use waterproof mascara.

Waterproof mascara is made to be somewhat indestructible, which can make them very difficult to remove. The effort you expend to try and clean waterproof mascara off your eyelash extensions may very well pull them right off, or at least weaken them considerably.
