Blog > Trends and Tips to Male grooming

Published 25th August 2016

Ask a few women how they feel about chest hair and you'd probably get a few different answers because while some may like the feel of manliness, some others may share a different opinion. On the flip side, ask a few women and men too – how they feel about back hair and you'll get one resounding answer: GROSS!.

It should be common knowledge that there are different ways to handling excessive body hair, such as trimming with an electronic device or laser hair removal, but one popular method among men is waxing. In this article, we would hand you on a platter, top 10 male grooming tips and for dessert, we'd add a little information on what's trendy in beauty for men.

10) Have your barber on speed dial

The next time you're at a barbershop, we advise you book a four-week appointment and stick to it. Why? The trick is to be proactive, not reactive. If you notice your facial hair is messy today, most people saw it at least three days ago, meaning you've been carrying that around for 72hrs. Having a schedule with your barber will ensure you are well groomed. Extra bonus? You don't feel the "please don't ruin my beard" anxiety you get when it's a new barbershop.

9) Choose a scent

Pick one scent and stick to it for a while. In place of stocking 5-10 average quality bottles you pick from each morning at random, find one or two classic scents you really like, invest and stick to them. Aftershave doesn't have to be obvious. If people notice you just walked in then you've probably worn too much.

8) Proper Manscaping

Quite frankly, how you treat your pubic hair is essentially how you treat your body. If it's unkempt then I don't want to see the rest of your body. Trimming your pubic is not only perfectly acceptable in 2015, it's polite. And be sure to separate whatever device you use for your manscaping from what you shave your face with.

7) Find your best-suited hair products

Hair types are like opinions...everybody has one. Thicker hair and messy styles can handle waxes and pomades, but if your hair's thinner, then lighter products and sprays are probably best suited. And as earlier advised,if you're a bit in the dark, talk to your barber. The right product can make all the difference.

6) Careful with the teeth

Women were asked what they notice first when they meet with men: your shoes and your smile. When it comes to the latter, you literally have no excuse for overlooking technology. Electric toothbrushes are designed to do most the work for you, plus, they're better for your health and while you're at it, use a mouthwash after you brush first thing in the morning. Some come with strawberry scent...and everybody likes strawberries.

5) Watch the brows

Big eyebrows? No problem. Unibrows? Big problem. Pay attention to the spot in the middle, and any errant hairs above and below your brows are also worth staying on top of. Again this is where the barber comes in...ask your barber to tidy your brows up.

4) Manicure and Pedicure

Have you got that rough, flaky skin around the nail bed that somehow irritates you more than it looks like it should? Treat with a tiny bit of moisturizer every couple of days to smooth things over. A well-groomed nail is just a turn on for most women. It's an indicator you are patient enough to look good.

3) Facial hair? Yes, please...Too much facial hair? Ugggh No

Unless your to-do list has "venture into the wild" to find your sole purpose in life, facial hair of any length just has to be tamed and maintained if you want to be taken seriously. Beard trimmers are cheap, so pick one up and make tidying up a habit.

2) Nose Hair's a definite NO

So gross yet so easy to avoid! It’s literally thirty seconds with a trimmer to remove this incredibly unsightly element from your face. It's common sense, the taller you are, the more people are looking up your nose instead of at it. This means tall guys especially need to be vigilant about their nose hairs.

Trim them back so no one’s staring at those rather weird looking danglers when they should be admiring your face. Regardless of how handsome you look, nose hair hugs all the attention.

1) Hairy Necks? No!

This has half the same effect as back hair. Most haircuts involve neatening up the bottom outline where your haircut ends, usually on the back of the neck. Guys who have hairy backs should make sure their back hairs aren't creeping up to join the nape or worse yet to be visible above the collar. Tip: waxing is a surefire way to keep back hair in check.

So there you have it, our top ten tips for male grooming. We promised beauty trends for dessert in this article so here you go.

The Man Bun: Yup! It's trendy and isn't going anywhere, Little wonder soccer star Gareth Bale has been saving one up.

The Glitter Beard: First off, Beards...then one that glitters...enough said.

The Floral Beard: Well we can blame this one on the Snapchat app. We can't say it's not attractive, though. It really is.

Technicolor hair: Well groomed hair dyed blue? Or gray, depending on what suits your style. Bottom-line technicolor is here (hair).

The Man Braid: Guys have been rocking cornrows for decades and it is as fashionable now as it was ten years ago, especially now that the man braid is made into the man bun.
