Help & Advice > Choose the right bob for your face shape

Steve Lupton from Steve Lupton Hair explains how to choose the right bob for your face shape.

Believe me a bob looks different on everyone but can be worn by anyone. It seems the bob is the style of choice this month in my salon, I am being asked daily for this iconic style. If you do decide to go for it, make sure it suits your face shape.

Round Face

Usually women with round faces are scared to cut their hair shorter! So a longer bob can be very flattering on a round face and much less terrifying! A below-the-chin bob is best to help lengthen the face, but avoid layers around the sides, they will only accentuate the fullness of the cheekbones. If you want a fringe too, go for a choppy one that will cut the roundness of the face and create a slimming look.

Square Face

Women with a square face have, wait for it,  a square jaw. Their face is generally as wide as it is long. The bob should be left a bit longer to soften the hard edges of the jaw line, layering around the face helps too. Fringes generally don't work for this face shape bob.

Oval Face

If your face is longer than it is wide, you have plenty of options with a bob. Length and texture is open. Depending on the thickness of your hair, you can pull of a long, medium, short or even a pixie-length bob. An oval face has it all so have fun with it!

Heart-Shaped Face

If your face is wider at the forehead and cheekbones and narrower at the jaw, go for a bob that is chin length or longer.  Add layers to soften your face shape and avoid height on top of the crown. This would only make your face appear wider at the top.  Any type of a fringe will look great, especially blunt ones.
